My first week at the Noble Research Institute in Ardmore, Okla., was great! After completing orientation, attending meetings and fulfilling HR requirements, our first experience as Lloyd Noble Scholars in Agriculture was being a part of the Pond Management Workshop and interacting with Noble wildlife specialists and local producers.
Being cosponsored by GrowSafe, my scholarship focus for the summer will be more directed toward the livestock operations, but with no lack of a full Noble experience. This will make for some early mornings and hot days, but it's all for ag so it's worth it!
On Wednesday, I assisted in cleaning and preparing the GrowSafe and GrowSafe Beef systems for an incoming trial at the Oswalt Ranch. Friday was marked by the conclusion of a project at the Red River farm where I met the "cowboy crew" and helped with blood collection for DNA analysis on 180 head of steer.
Our Ag Scholars team is growing each week and will finish up with a total of eight scholars from all over the country. We have team projects, individual interests and a full schedule ahead. With no lack of fun side-trips, this summer is stacking up to be a season to remember!
Summer Clifton is a 2013 Lloyd Noble Scholar in Agriculture and GrowSafe Intern. Hailing from Cogar, Okla. She is currently wrapping up her senior year at Oklahoma State University where she is majoring in animal science with a minor in ag business.
