The primary goal of the Small Grains Breeding Laboratory is to develop cultivars with increased grazing tolerance, winter hardiness, forage yield and forage quality to benefit livestock production in the Southern Great Plains. The major crops covered under the program are rye, dual-purpose wheat, triticale and oat. We use genomics technologies to accelerate breeding cycles and efficiently identify and introduce desirable traits into elite germplasm.
