Molecular Plant Microbe Laboratory

Research in the Molecular Plant Microbe Laboratory focuses on molecular plant-microbe interaction and development of genetic resources in Medicago truncatula and Brachypodium distachyon. We are using various different approaches and model organisms to identify genes involved in nonhost disease resistance. Nonhost resistance is poorly studied, and understanding nonhost resistance is important for agriculture to incorporate durable resistance in crop plants. As part of a translational research effort, we are expressing genes identified to be important for nonhost resistance in crop plants such as alfalfa, soybean and rice.
