General Overview

This event is designed to provide new and prospective producers with a concrete foundation of the primary considerations involved in entering into beef cattle production. The program should encourage you to think about the limitations, opportunities and goals specific to your operation to help you develop a plan moving forward.

You will be briefed on all critical factors of entering into beef cattle production, including various land considerations and how different land types fit into different production enterprises such as summer stockers, winter stockers and cow-calf production. You will also receive information on basic cow nutrition and reproduction as well as options for various equipment and working pens and chutes. The event will cover the economic fundamentals of livestock production to help you build an understanding of the working parts of the beef cattle industry. You should leave with a basic understanding that will help you determine whether you have the proper resources and goals to pursue beef cattle production.
