This session in the Pond Management Series will focus on managing an impoundment after fish are stocked. We will discuss how to manage an existing fishery depending on the fishery condition and the owner’s specific goals. Learn about fish sampling techniques, how to manage problem fish species, supplemental stocking and feeding fish. We will also discuss aquatic vegetation management. Come find out what plants are beneficial for your pond and how to control the undesirable plants.
Pond Management Series Overview
Ponds can provide endless hours of recreation as well as increased value to a property. There are many goals for an impoundment, such as sport fishing, waterfowl, livestock water, swimming, fire suppression supply and irrigation supply.
This series will focus on sport fish management in small impoundments. We will discuss how to develop a quality sport fishing impoundment from the ground up, from site selection to how to manage existing fish and everything in-between. Come learn the fundamentals of fish management that will aid you in developing and managing an enjoyable fishery on your property.
