Backyard Farming: Intensive Small Space Food Systems

Participants will learn about the many benefits including social, economic and health associated with backyard food production. The importance of goal setting, assessing one's resources and awareness of property use restrictions will be discussed. Information on limited space crop and livestock options and production systems will be presented as well as information on scale appropriate equipment and support facilities. An overview of post harvest handling and basic food safety will be presented in addition to food preservation techniques tailored for the back yard grower. As a bonus, participants will have the opportunity to tour the Noble Research Institute’s new back yard garden learning center.
