Upson serves as a horticulture consultant in the Agricultural Division's consultation program. In addition to his consultation services, he oversees the Noble Foundation's research and demonstration program for raised bed gardening techniques. Further, he promotes home gardening and participates in a variety of community gardening projects. In commercial horticulture, he specializes in modified environmental (hoop house) vegetable and small fruit production. Upson joined the Noble Foundation in 1988.
Before coming to the Foundation, Upson managed a commercial vegetable farm and was an extension horticulture agent for Oklahoma State University.
Upson authored the video and publication Permanent Raised Bed Gardening as well as the publication Hit and Miss: The Cumulative Experiences of an Ex-Vegetable Grower.
