Center for Medicago Genomics Research: NSF Project Workshops

As part of the training and outreach mission of this project, annual workshops related to the general themes of Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics of Legumes are held each summer. at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation conference center and laboratories (at no cost to participants or NSF).

2005: Plant Integrated Functional Genomics
A final and cumulative workshop focused on plant integrated functional genomics will be held November 16-18, 2005 at The Noble Foundation in Ardmore, Okla.

This workshop is part of the outreach component of a project funded by The National Science Foundation Plant Genome Research Program (#0109732) entitled "An Integrated Approach to Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics in a Model Legume". The workshop is sponsored by The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, and The National Science Foundation. The objective of this meeting is to gather practitioners of plant functional genomics together in the presence of those who wish to learn more about the science of functional genomics to discuss the current status and future directions of the field. This meeting is intended to be a discussion session for those who practice functional genomics and a tutorial for those new to the field. The schedule includes two days of lectures (Nov. 16-17, 2005) and a third day (Nov. 18, 2005) for instrumental demonstrations and data processing overviews.

2004: Plant Proteomics
A workshop focused on plant proteomics was conducted August 4-6, 2004 at The Noble Foundation in Ardmore, Okla.

The objective of this meeting was to gather together plant proteomics practitioners to discuss the current status and future directions of proteomics in the presence of those who wished to learn more about the science of proteomics. This meeting was intended to be a tutorial for those new to proteomics and a discussion session for those who practice proteomics. The program included two days of lectures (Aug 4-5, 2004) and a third day (Aug. 6, 2004) of laboratory and instrumental demonstrations including data processing. The lecturers were divided into three general categories: 1) Methods & Technology, 2) Applications, and 3) Informatics. The final plant proteomics program is accessible below. This workshop was part of the outreach component of a research project funded by The National Science Foundation Plant Genome Research Program (#0109732). This award is focused on integrated functional genomics and entitled "An Integrated Approach to Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics in a Model Legume".

2003: Metabolomics
A workshop focused on plant metabolomics was held August 25-27, 2003 at The Noble Foundation in Ardmore, Okla. The objective of this gathering was to bring together practitioners of metabolomics to discuss the current status and future directions of metabolomics in the presence of those who wish to learn more about the science of metabolomics. This meeting was to be a tutorial for those new to metabolomics and a discussion session for those who practice metabolomics. The schedule included two days of lectures and a third day for hands-on instrumental analyses and data processing. The hands-on session allowed participants to analyze a representative data set or their own personal samples (<6each) by GC/MS and then process the data. This workshop is part of the outreach component of a research project funded by The National Science Foundation Plant Genome Research Program (#0109732) focused on integrated functional genomics and was supported by The Noble Foundation, Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, and The National Science Foundation.
