Description: A medium-sized tree found on a wide variety of sites. A native of east Asia but is thoroughly naturalized in many areas of our region. Leaves are often variable in shape and divided into three to five lobes. Fruit maturing pink, white, purple or black in the summer. Fruit resembles a raspberry or blackberry and is relished by many birds and squirrels and can be consumed by humans as well. Used in shelterbelt plantings. Stems and leaves contain milky sap.
