Description:
An irregular shaped shrub or small tree usually occurring on limestone hills and outcrops. Leaf tips are blunt. Shredded, shaggy-looking bark is grey to grey-brown in color. Fruit is eaten by many birds and some mammals. Although not a preferred browse, the foliage may be eaten by white-tailed deer and goats if higher quality browse is not available. It is an invasive plant on rangelands due to fire suppression. Does not re-sprout if cut or killed by fire.
