Description: A common winter grass in our region and adapted to a variety of soils. Its florets resemble a spear and its dark green, very erect leaves feel like sandpaper when pulled between your fingers from top to bottom due to numerous, short stiff hairs. It is a fair forage for cattle and some wildlife species and increases under disturbance.
