Description: A perennial wintergrass common to our region. Typically found growing in shaded areas or where adequate moisture is available. It is highly palatable and preferred by cattle. The leaves are dark green and broad with sheaths that clasp the stem. The inflorescence looks similar to that of cereal grain rye. The glumes at the base of the seed form a "V." Provides forage and cover for some species of wildlife.
