Scientific names: Acalypha gracilens
Seasons of significant use: summer, fall, winter (for Acalypha spp. complex)
Characteristics: Native, annual, warm season, forb to 2.0 feet. Leaves alternate, simple, narrowly ovate, broadly lanceolate, or linear with slightly crenate to entire margins; plants monoceious; spikes axillary with both male and female flowers but sometimes only male; female flowers subtended by a foliaceous bract; fruit is a 3-seeded capsule. Flowers July-October.
Plant community type: Typically in open uplands but also occurs in open bottomland areas.
