Common names: yellow ironweed, wingstem, yellow wingstem Scientific names: Verbesina alternifoia (Actinomeris alternifolia) Seasons of significant use: fall Characteristics: Native, perennial, warm season forb to 7.0 feet. Leaves alternate (rarely opposite), simple, margins coarsely serrate to subentire, decurrent as wings on stem; both ray and disk flowers yellow, ray flowers reflexed; fruit is a winged achene.
