Seasons of significant use: fall, winter (for A. parlinii-Gnaphalium spp. complex)

Characteristics: Native, perennial, cool season forb to 1.0 foot. Plants often forming mats or colonies. Leaves alternate, simple, mostly basal (basal leaves are distinctly 3-5 nerved and larger than the upper ones), woolly beneath; plants are dioecious. Flowers in March-April.

Plant community type: Wooded uplands and upland wooded-open edge situations.

Comments: Overwinters as a basal rosette of leaves.
