Description:
The state tree of Texas. A large tree with a broad rounded crown found on moist soil, especially along river and stream drainages. Fruit is relished by humans, and many species of wildlife, mainly bluejays, crows, raccoons and squirrels. The wood has many uses including furniture, paneling and smoking meat. Many horticultural varieties have been developed and propagated for the valuable nuts. The largest recorded Pecan tree in the U.S. (National Champion) is located three miles north of Weatherford, TX on State Highway 51.
