Description:
A large tree occurring in bottomlands with rich soil. Usually along streams and rivers. Foliage and sprouts are poisonous to livestock and the fruit pulp and raw seed is poisonous to humans. Reportedly, the seeds have historically been used as a coffee substitute when roasted. Often planted as an ornamental. Is one of our regions largest leafed trees. Kentucky coffee tree is a legume.
