Description: A medium-sized tree with a strong, short trunk and a spreading open crown. Common in wet soil along rivers, streams and in bottomlands, mainly in the eastern part of our region. Although a native in eastern North America, it is often planted for shade in central and western Oklahoma and Texas. Fruits (samaras) are numerous, large, and maturing in the spring. Leaves are silvery white below. Sometimes planted as an ornamental in landscapes.
