Description: A legume with prickly, much-branched stems forming a small shrub on rocky upland sites in the southwestern portion of our region. Fruit may be armed with stout prickles. Flowers are showy, pink and puff-ball shaped. The leaflets have a tendency to ?fold up? when handled. It is sometimes browsed by whitetailed deer and livestock.
