Description:
A small tree or shrub occurring in forest understorys and along the edges of streams and timbered areas. Twigs may have short dull thorns or spurs. Fruit matures red in the fall and may remain attached into winter. The fruit is eaten by quail and other birds and mammals. The red fruit attached to grey twigs are often used for Christmas decorations. Also commonly called Possumhaw. The fruit is poisonous.
