Description: A large tree with a narrow or sometimes broad rounded crown. Common on limestone outcrops, creek bottoms and well-drained uplands. Rare on flood plains. The acorns are eaten by many species of wildlife. The leaves and twigs may be browsed by white-tailed deer and some livestock. Chinquapin oak is a member of the "White" oak group whose leaf veins do not extend past the leaf margin to form bristles.
