Description: A large tree common on moist soil in bottomlands and uplands. Most common in the central portion of our region eastward. Is a favored shade tree because of its broad crown, although now less widely used due to its susceptibility to Dutch elm disease. Large leaves are dark green and usually hairless and smooth above.
