Description: As the name implies, this grass most commonly occurs on sandy sites in prairies and meadows. Its inflorescence is wide at the base and narrows to a point. It usually has a flag-leaf just below the inflorescence. It also has an obvious ring of hairs at the base of the leaf blade. It is of little value to wildlife and provides fair forage for cattle.
