Description:
A small tree found on a wide variety of sites. Its broad spreading crown is often irregularly shaped. Leaves and young stems covered with dense hair. Leaves feel like sandpaper. Planted as an ornamental and for shade, escaping and becoming naturalized in some areas. Stems and leaves contain milky sap. Fine paper is obtained from the inner bark. Can become a problematic invader.
