National Geographic Photographer to Speak in Ardmore
ARDMORE Flesh-eating parasites.
A charging mother grizzly bear. Weeks in remote jungles searching for the perfect
shot. These are just a few of the trials photographer Joel Sartore has endured
on his quest to capture unique images for National Geographic. Since
beginning his career with National Geographic, he has covered land
use issues and wildlife extensively, completing 17 stories for the magazine.
Sartore is the final presenter in
the Noble Foundation's 2002-2003 Profiles and Perspectives community
enrichment speaker series. He will share vivid details of his experiences and
show how to make the best of the worst situations, from being skunked by subjects
to being stung by them — delivering his message about endangered species
and preserving our natural history with a passion that comes from seeing it
first-hand in his 13 years on assignment for National Geographic. The
presentation will include video clips, a slide show and a question-and-answer
session.
"We are excited to have a world-renowned
photographer to close out the 2002-2003 Profiles and Perspectives series,"
said Mary Kate Heltzel, chair of the Profiles Committee. "Everyone
has seen his work in National Geographic, and now people in Ardmore
and the surrounding communities will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes
of the photo shoots. This program will be entertaining for people of all ages."
The program will be on Tuesday, April
29, at 7 p.m. in the Plainview High School Auditorium located at 1140 S. Plainview
Road in Ardmore. All Profiles programs are free and open to the public.
For more information on the Foundation's
Profiles and Perspectives series, contact Heltzel at (580) 223-5810.
