ARDMORE — Dr. Charles Esmon, an Oklahoma scientist who was elected to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences in 2002, is the next speaker in the Noble Foundation?s Profiles and Perspectives community enrichment series.

Esmon, holder of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation?s Lloyd Noble Chair in Cardiovascular Research, is recognized as one of the world?s experts in the field of blood coagulation and heart disease research. Esmon?s presentation will address

  • how blood vessels prevent blood clots from forming and how this system plays a role in preventing blood poisoning;

  • the relationship between certain types of autoimmune diseases and blood clots.

?Dr. Esmon is the fourth Oklahoman elected to the National Academy of Sciences, which was started by President Lincoln in 1863,? said Mary Kate Heltzel, chair of the Foundation?s Profiles and Perspectives Committee. ?We are honored to host this extremely talented and notable individual as part of our community enrichment series.?

The program will be on Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. in the Plainview High School Auditorium located at 1140 S. Plainview Road in Ardmore. All Profiles programs are free and open to the public.
