Burns Hargis and Michael C. Turpen will bring their barbed political banter to Ardmore in early October as the second installment in The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation's 2006-2007 Profiles and Perspectives series.
The co-hosts of KFOR's award-winning public affairs show Flashpoint, Hargis and Turpen will take the stage at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Charles B. Goddard Center, located at 401 First St. in Ardmore. The program, entitled "The November Elections: Big Changes or more of the Same?", is free and open to the public.
"This will be their third appearance in Ardmore since we began the Profiles and Perspectives series in 1998," said Mary Kate Wilson, Chair of the Profiles and Perspectives Committee. "Their humorous interaction and frank analysis of politics is entertaining and informative. The audience will gain a unique perspective on the issues while enjoying a fun evening."
Hargis earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University and a law degree from the University of Oklahoma. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Bank of Oklahoma. Hargis practiced law in Oklahoma City for 28 years before throwing his hat in the political arena and running as the republican nominee for Governor in 1990. Hargis' counterpart stands on the opposite end of the political spectrum.
A dyed-in-the-wool democrat, Turpen earned two degrees from the University of Tulsa, including a Bachelor of Science in History in 1972, and a juris doctorate three years later. He served as Oklahoma's attorney general from 1983 to 1987 and has since been a partner at an Oklahoma City law firm.
The third installment of the Noble Foundation's Profiles and Perspectives series will feature expert gardener Jon Carloftis. His talk, entitled "Putting style in your garden," will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at the Goddard Center.
