The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Inc.   Coaches Coale and Holder to Appear in Profiles 2004-2005 Season Opener
The Noble Foundation's 2004-2005 season of the Profiles and Perspectives community enrichment series will kick off at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26, at the Charles B. Goddard Center in Ardmore with a program no sports fan should miss — University of Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale and Oklahoma State University men's golf coach Mike Holder will participate in a panel discussion on building athletic programs and motivating young adults. Craig Humphreys, a popular on-air personality at Oklahoma City radio station WWLS-The Sports Animal, will moderate the program.

"Sherri Coale and Mike Holder have the unique ability of instilling drive and determination in the athletes they coach," said Mary Kate Heltzel, Noble Foundation granting program associate and chair of the Profiles and Perspectives Committee. "The techniques they have used to build very successful athletic programs can be applied to many other areas of life. We are pleased to bring these two southern Oklahoma natives to Ardmore to share their insight with the community."

Since she produced her first winning season in 1999, Sherri Coale has taken four teams to postseason action and won 20-plus games the last three years, including surpassing the 30-win mark for the first time in program history in 2002. In tribute to the Sooners' amazing NCAA run and for her commitment to intercollegiate athletics, Coale received two special awards following the 2001-02 season. She was honored by the Kansas City Sports Commission for Outstanding Achievement for Amateur Athletics and was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year by the Dallas All-Sports Association. Over the past three years, Coale and her teams have produced an impressive 85-18 overall record and a 42-6 Big 12 mark. The Sooners have appeared on the front cover of the USA Today Sports section, been showcased on ESPN and featured in Sports Illustrated.

In the last 30 years, Mike Holder's name has become synonymous with success in college golf. His successes include not only his team's results on the course, but his players' performances in the classroom and beyond. In 2000, Holder's team claimed the national championship, marking the eighth time his squad has carried home that championship trophy. And while top-five national finishes are the norm at Oklahoma State, the accomplishments of his teams don't stop at the 18th hole. Since Holder took over the OSU coaching post on July 1, 1973, his teams have set standards that are unequalled on the golf course as well as in the classroom.
