During one of the most exciting election seasons in years, political analysts
Burns Hargis and Mike Turpen return to Ardmore for a lively debate of issues affecting
Oklahoma and the nation. The program, the second in the 2004-2005 season of the
Noble Foundation's Profiles and Perspectives series, will take place
at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Charles B. Goddard Center in Ardmore. It
is free and open to the public.
Hargis, a Republican, and Turpen, a Democrat, co-host the award-winning public affairs show "Flashpoint," which is broadcast on KFOR television in Oklahoma City. The men's vocal, but good-natured, disagreements on all things political will make for an entertaining and informative evening. “It is exciting to bring Burns Hargis and Mike Turpen back to Ardmore for a spirited debate of the many issues area citizens will be voting on in just a matter of weeks,” said Mary Kate Heltzel, chair of the Profiles and Perspectives Committee. Hargis holds degrees in accounting from Oklahoma State University and in law from the University of Oklahoma. He practiced law in Oklahoma City for 28 years, most recently with the firm of McAfee & Taft. Currently, Hargis is vice chairmen of Bank of Oklahoma, N.A. Turpen earned a degree in history and law from the University of Tulsa. He served as Oklahoma's attorney general from 1983 to 1987. Since 1987, Turpen has been a partner in the law firm of Riggs, Abney, Neal, Turpen, Orbison & Lewis in Oklahoma City. The next Profiles presentation will feature Dr. Rufus Fears and his presentation "Winston Churchill and the Art of Leadership." His focus is on great leaders of the past and the lessons they hold for us today. The program will be on Nov. 18 at the Goddard Center at 7 p.m. For more information, call the Noble Foundation at (580) 223-5810. ###
