Speakers Announced for Third Season of Public Lectures in Science

ARDMORE, Okla. — The Noble Foundation's Public Lectures in Science series returns for a third season this year. The series is designed to present news about the fascinating work going on in the science world in plain, easy-to-understand language.

Opening the season on Thursday, Sept. 30, is Daniel Brooks, a professor of zoology at the University of Toronto. Brooks, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, will discuss the interesting lives of parasites, animals that are often microscopic in size and live inside of other animals, including humans.

The series will continue on Thursday, Dec. 2, when Jeff Henry, quality assurance manager for materials at Michelin in Ardmore, will discuss "What's Really Between You and the Road" — a look at the process of making tires and how the sap from a tree changed the world of transportation.

On Thursday, March 10, 2005, the series concludes with a talk by Luis Marquez, a postdoctoral fellow in the Foundation's Plant Biology Division. Before joining the Foundation, he spent 15 years studying coral and other marine animals. Marquez will discuss the ecology of coral reefs.

All lectures will be held at 7 p.m. in the Kruse Auditorium of the Noble Foundation, located at 2510 Sam Noble Parkway. The lectures will be followed by a reception.
