Prescribed Burning Seminar 2005

Prescribed burning is one of the most powerful tools available to land managers, but its proper application requires education and planning. The Noble Foundation's Agricultural Division is offering a public prescribed burning seminar on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 in which experts will cover the most important issues involved in planning and conducting prescribed burns. The event will be held in the Kruse Auditorium on the Noble Foundation's campus at 2510 Sam Noble Parkway in Ardmore. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the seminar will conclude shortly after 5 p.m.

"Prescribed burning is a tool that can often be used to achieve goals for wildlife habitat and forage management. By attending this seminar, land managers will gain a better understanding of prescribed burning, its application and how it may help them with their management goals," said Russell Stevens, a wildlife and range specialist at the Foundation.

Topics on the seminar agenda include:
  • historical aspects of fire and implications for management,
  • legal and liability considerations for a burn,
  • grazing management implications,
  • equipment used in controlled burns,
  • environmental considerations for prescribed fire,
  • techniques for managing fire,
  • prescribed burning plan,
  • burn planning exercise,
  • opportunities to gain experience with prescribed burning.

This seminar is open to the public and is free of charge. Space is limited, however, so register in advance by calling Melissa Castleman at (580) 224-6411.
