Librarians to Attend Ardmore Conference

ARDMORE, Okla. - More than 175 librarians and information specialists from a seven-state area will gather for the fourth annual SouthCentral Voyager Users Conference Oct. 3-5 at the Noble Foundation.

Voyager, a product of Endeavor Information Services, is the world's most-used software of electronic library management systems. Attendees are from academic, research, medical, and military libraries from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana.

The Noble Foundation Library is hosting the event, as well as providing local arrangements and conducting Friday afternoon tours for those attending.

"This conference brings to Ardmore a blend of librarians and information systems from both high-tech research centers and general academic libraries. We are pleased that the SouthCentral group chose the Noble Foundation as the host institution," said Patrick Brennen, Noble Foundation head librarian.

Two Wednesday afternoon workshops kick off the conference— "Electronic Reports Generation" and "Voyager Systems Administration." A welcome by Noble Foundation President Michael Cawley is slated for 9 a.m. Thursday, followed by the general conference welcome by Brennen. The morning session highlights Voyager updates. Attendees have a choice of two of the eight sessions offered that afternoon, and can choose two of seven sessions Friday morning.

Jane Burke, president of Endeavor Information Systems, is the keynote speaker Thursday morning.

Brennen said due to the size of the conference, facilities at both the Noble Foundation and the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center are being used.

Sessions cover a variety of topics, including imaging technology, electronic vertical files, firm orders, authority control, shelf-reading processing, bulk import processing of records, and training and marketing.

More information about the conference can be obtained by calling the Noble Foundation at (580) 223-5810.
