Two Basic AG events scheduled for Sherman, Texas, area

ARDMORE, Okla. — The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will team with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service to host two Basic AG seminars in August at the Grayson County Courthouse in Sherman, Texas.

Scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 17, the first Basic AG seminar will focus on pasture and wildlife management, providing foundational knowledge necessary for the upcoming fall season. Attendees will receive information on bermudagrass and winter pasture for fall/winter grazing, fencing requirements for rotational grazing, food plots, pond fisheries and feral hogs.

The second Basic AG event, slated for Tuesday, Aug. 24, will be a fall cattle management seminar which is designed to assist agricultural producers in preparation for the upcoming winter season. Seminar attendees will receive information on winterizing a cow herd, weaned herd management and how to manage "shrink."

Both seminars will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on their respective evenings.

"The Basic AG events offer solid information for several key issues of management facing producers this fall," said Hugh Aljoe, Noble Foundation consultation program manager. "While the seminars target those just entering the agricultural industry, anybody can attend. The information gained can be applied to many agricultural production scenarios or situations."

The Noble Foundation's Basic AG is an educational program to benefit those new to agriculture. The series provides practical, foundational knowledge that can be used in everyday operations. The events offer information and provide new tools to achieve specific agriculture-related goals, as well as the occasional hands-on experience. Basic AG events will frequently incorporate speakers from state and federal agricultural organizations.

"The Noble Foundation's Basic AG program provides quality, timely information, presented in a clear and concise format," Aljoe said. "Each event, including the upcoming seminars in Sherman, Texas, offer attendees plenty of time to ask questions and visit with the experts. Each event holds the potential to immediately enhance a new producer's operation."
