The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation and the Jack County Extension Office will provide valuable information for farmers and ranchers with cow-calf operations at an upcoming Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Field Day. Hosted by South Campsey Cattle Company, the BQA Field Day will begin at 8:30 a.m., Monday, May 12, at the Jack County Fair Barn in Jacksboro, Texas. During the field day, Noble Foundation consultants and Jack County Extension agents will provide presentations about cattle handling, vaccinations (types, handling, administration, timing), recordkeeping, dehorning and castration. After the presentations, participants will travel to the South Campsey Cattle Company where they will receive hands-on BQA procedural demonstrations on everything from vaccinations and branding to dehorning and castration. There also will be a demonstration about low stress cattle handling. Participants will then return to the Jack County Fair Barn for lunch and a discussion on body condition scoring. The BQA Field Day will conclude with a question-and-answer session. "The Beef Quality Assurance Field Day offers quality, up-to-date information for new and veteran cow-calf operators," said Robert Wells, Ph.D., livestock consultant with the Noble Foundation. "This is an excellent opportunity for all farmers and ranchers to refresh their skills in handling cattle, as well as learn some invaluable information that may improve their operation."The Beef Quality Assurance Field Day is open to the public, but it is limited to 30 participants. Those individuals who are in the Texas Beef Quality Producer Program will earn 4 Beef Quality Continuing Education Units (CEU). Cost to attend is $10.
