The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation Agricultural Division will host an educational workshop on prescribed burning.

The Prescribed Burning Workshop is open to the public and will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center (2610 Sam Noble Parkway), just east of the Noble Foundation campus in Ardmore.

"Prescribed burning is a powerful land management tool that can be used effectively for brush management, improving forage quality and manipulating wildlife habitat," said Mike Porter, wildlife specialist. "Planning, training, safety and control are critical components for effective prescribed burns, and we will discuss these topics and many more during the workshop."

The workshop's morning session will feature presentations from Noble Foundation specialists on topics ranging from legal and liability considerations and techniques for managing fire to environmental considerations and prescribed burning plans. There will also be a session discussing the impact prescribed burning can have on grazing management. Participants will also receive several publications and articles addressing prescribed burning.

Following lunch, a demonstration burn will be held at the Lake Murray Field Trial Grounds (weather permitting), which will include a detailed explanation of equipment used during a controlled burn.
