It was a mission that changed history and retired Lt. Col. Steve Russell led it.

As the final speaker in the Noble Foundation's 10th anniversary edition of its speakers series, Profiles and Perspectives, Russell will detail the mission that resulted in the capture of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in December 2003.

Entitled The Hunt and Capture of Saddam Hussein, Russell's presentation will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, at the Charles B. Goddard Center, located at 401 1st Avenue S.W., Ardmore, Okla. The presentation is open to the public and offered at no cost.

Russell served in the United States Army for more than two decades in airborne, light and mechanized assignments before retiring with his family to Oklahoma. As one of his final missions, Russell commanded the unit that was central to the capture of Hussein. Today, he travels across the United States and Canada speaking about his military experiences and detailing the behind-the-scenes activities involved in a historical military operation.

"We've had many outstanding presentations during this landmark year for Profiles and Perspectives," said Mary Kate Wilson, Noble Foundation Granting Program Officer and chair of the Profiles and Perspectives Committee. "But I truly believe we've saved the best for last. Russell's talk will undoubtedly provide a thought-provoking discussion related to current military activities."
