Garden designer highlights Noble Foundation's upcoming Profiles and Perspectives installment

Jon Carloftis is an artist who prefers to work in natural mediums.

As an award-winning garden designer, Carloftis passes up paints for pansies; he chooses cherry trees over charcoal; and this month he will visit Ardmore to share his passion for creating unique and awe-inspiring home gardens.

Carloftis is the third speaker in The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation's 2006-2007 Profiles and Perspectives series. His presentation will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Charles B. Goddard Center, located at 401 First St. SW in Ardmore. The program, entitled "Putting Style in Your Garden," is free and open to the public.

"Mr. Carloftis is a highly sought-after garden designer," said Mary Kate Wilson, Chair of the Profiles and Perspectives Committee. "His program will include visual illustrations of his work and plenty of how-to tips for gardeners whether they are novices or well experienced. It's sure to be a rare treat for the audience."

Carloftis grew up on the banks of the Rockcastle River in South Central Kentucky, where he fell in love with nature and made it his life's work. Carloftis has authored the book First A Garden, as well as contributed to numerous publications, including Garden Design, Metropolitan Home, Interior, Southern Living and House Beautiful.

As one of the nation's premiere garden designer, Carloftis has appeared on countless TV shows ranging from Martha Stewart Living to ABC's Good Morning America. He has also designed gardens for such celebrities as Julianne Moore and Edward Norton.

As a result of his body of work, Carloftis was the recent recipient of a landscaping design award from the Museum of the City of New York.
