Throughout the next three weeks, The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, along with Oklahoma Cooperative Extension and Texas Cooperative Extension, will host four white-tailed deer management workshops.
The workshops, which are held from 10 a.m. to 5:20 p.m., will provide in-site into deer management practices. Wildlife specialists from the Noble Foundation, as well as the other state organizations, will discuss topics such as deer biology, habitat, food habits, population management, state programs, antler development and deer management associations. The workshops will include work stations that highlight deer food plant identification, how to age deer and how to measure and score antlers.
"These hands-on workshops are a great source of information for those looking to understand the best deer management practices," said Mike Porter, Noble Foundation wildlife and fisheries specialist. "Participants will have the opportunity to interact with the wildlife specialists and get answers to the questions that impact their specific situations."
- The four workshops will take place at the following dates and locations:
- Thursday, Sept. 20: Mid-America Technology Center at Wayne on Highway 59 just west of Interstate 35;
Tuesday, Sept. 25: Mills Ranch at Bromide (northeast of Tishomingo) take Highway 7 to Highway 7D (follow the Noble Foundation event signs);
Thursday, Sept. 27: Nocona Community Center on Highway 82 in Nocona, Texas; and
Monday, Oct. 1: Stephens County Fairgrounds on Highway 7 in Duncan.
Registration for the white-tailed deer management workshops is $15 and includes lunch. To register for a workshop or for more information, contact Annie Coble at 580.224.6501 or visit www.noble.org/agevents.
