Twenty-two students from across southern Oklahoma and north Texas have been selected to be a part of The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation's annual summer camp, AgVenture.
Organized by the Noble Foundation's Agricultural Division, AgVenture is a four-day summer camp for high school students (sophomores through seniors) who have demonstrated a strong interest in agriculture and may be contemplating a career in agriculture.
The camp, which will take place June 5-8 at the Noble Foundation's campus in Ardmore, will provide hands-on experience in numerous agriculture-related fields, including grazing management, commercial fish farming, new livestock technologies, intensive vegetable production, livestock marketing and farm management, and soil conservation. There will also be a special session on career opportunities in the various agricultural industries.
"This type of summer camp is unique to the Noble Foundation," said Shan Ingram, Education and Special Projects Manager for the Noble Foundation. "We bring these select students together and provide them an opportunity to experience agriculture in a way that is new or different for most of them. They have a chance to see various facets of production agriculture and agricultural research and begin to understand how the segments fit together to form an enormous industry."
AgVenture is limited to no more than 24 participants who are selected by a committee on a competitive basis. The students selected to participate in Agventure 2007 include (name, hometown, classification, high school):
