The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will team with the Progressive Agriculture Foundation to host an Agriculture Safety Day for children ages 6 to 13 from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, at the Noble Foundation Horticulture Center.
"Growing up on a farm has many rewards for children," said Shan Ingram, Education and Special Projects Manager for the Noble Foundation. "They gain self-sufficiency, develop a work ethic and learn responsibility. However, farms also hold many potential dangers. Heavy equipment, electrical hazards and possible exposure to chemicals all pose a risk to the well-being of children who live on or visit farms. The goal of this workshop is to teach a safety-conscious approach to life on the farm."
Sessions will cover topics ranging from proper use of tractor, lawn and all-terrain vehicles to fire, electrical and chemical safety. There will also be a special first aid session. The Agriculture Safety Day is offered at no cost to participants. Lunch will be provided, and all participants will receive a t-shirt.
Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. For additional information, directions or to register, please contact Annie Coble at 580.224.6501 or by e-mail at macoble@noble.org.
