Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow Exempt: X
Division: Forage Improvement
Incumbent: New
Duties:
Develop a comprehensive molecular marker system for switchgrass. Construct the genetic linkage maps. Conducting field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments to determine physiological and genetic traits in switchgrass associated with biomass and related traits, cell wall components, and feedstock quality. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting experiments, analyzing data, and reporting results at professional meetings and in appropriate referred publications.
Minimum qualifications:
Ph.D. in plant sciences/molecular genetics. Should have experience in molecular markers, molecular mapping and QTL analysis. Strong written and oral communication skills in English and demonstrated publication record.
Job description:
The successful applicant will work on a USDA/DOE funded switchgrass project. Parental selection needs to be made in existing switchgrass populations. Crosses will be made to develop mapping/QTL populations. Comprehensive molecular marker system (microsatellite, STS, SNP) needs to be developed from switchgrass EST and genomic sequences. The developed populations will be used to construct high density genetic linkage maps. The population will also be evaluated in both field and greenhouse experiments to collect data on traits related to biomass, cell wall components, and feedstock quality. QTL analyses will be performed on the constructed linkage maps using data from field and greenhouse experiments. Besides, the incumbent will also be responsible for data analysis, write research reports and publish results in appropriate journals in collaboration with other scientists on the project. Selected candidate also needs to present research findings at professional meetings.
