Position: Graphic Design Specialist

The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation is seeking a graphic designer. The successful candidate will use Adobe Creative Suite and other software to design books, pamphlets, posters and other printed and electronic materials. The individual will report to the director of publications and visual media and will interact daily with internal design and public relations staff to advance the design and branding efforts of the Noble Foundation. In addition, this person will work directly with the Noble Foundation’s researchers and agricultural staff to develop visual solutions to communicate advanced scientific and technical concepts.
Requirements include a BS/BA or the equivalent in a graphic arts-related field and two years experience in a similar position. Comfort working with both Mac and Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office software is necessary. Highly developed skills with Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator are expected. Experience with multimedia/video applications such as Flash or Final Cut Pro would be beneficial, but are not required.
The Noble Foundation offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. Employment in this full-time position will be at the organization’s main campus in Ardmore, Okla.

Communications Specialist 2/
Graphics & Publication Design
Date: 10-5-07 Division: Administrative
FLSA classification: Exempt

Job summary:
Prepares information in presentation and publication formats; produces forms, documents, posters and creative artwork; assists other department staff and public affairs staff with design and layout
Major tasks, duties and responsibilities
Essential duties:
(1) Artwork and related functions 80%
• Designs publications within company branding guidelines
• Creates illustrations and technical artwork
• Digital imaging and image manipulation
• Provides finishing services (paste-up, lamination, binding, etc.)
• Assists public affairs staff with design and publication assembly
(3) Miscellaneous departmental functions 15%
• Assisting with basic equipment maintenance (install lamination rolls, toner, etc.)
• Filling out work orders and other paperwork
• Other duties as assigned
Secondary duties: 5%
• Enhancing proficiency with computer software and hardware
• Attending training seminars
Organizational relationships
Supervision received: Supervised by Director of Publications and Visual Media; serves in customer service capacity to internal and external service requesters
Supervision given: Summer/temporary employees as assigned
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
Experience: Minimum of two years in similar position

Other skills, knowledge and abilities
1. Advanced knowledge of art/graphic design/page layout and software
2. Proficiency with graphics equipment
3. Proficiency with Macintosh and Windows OS
4. Proficiency in reading, writing and punctuating English
Physical and mental requirements
Lifting and carrying: Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds
Pushing and pulling: Must be able to push and pull objects weighing up to 40 pounds and objects on wheels weighing up to 40 pounds
Body positions: Must be able to sit and lift light (10-pound) objects
Body movements: Must be able to bend, reach, twist and stoop
Hand use: Must be able to use both hands to use computer, paste-up and related tasks
Sense of touch: Necessary for computer use and paste-up work
Hearing: Must be normal or correctable to normal; or accompanied by interpreter with normal hearing
Vision: 20/20 or correctable to normal levels, color differentiation ability needed
Mental requirements:
Mathematics: Must be functional in arithmetic at high school level or above
Remembering: Essential for daily duties, following instructions, software operation, etc.
Language ability: Must be functional in written and spoken English at high school level or above proofreading and communications
Reasoning: Must have above-average reasoning abilities to carry out routine decision-making processes
Other requirements: Ability to operate a company vehicle beneficial but not essential; ability to work in deadline situations; ability to work well with others
