Position: Scientific Data Administrator Position ID: AD-A122-488
The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation is seeking a Scientific Data Administrator to be responsible for identifying database and data warehousing requirements, creating implementation plans, and developing solutions which support the computational and storage needs of the scientific staff. Plan, recommend, and support data warehouse analysis, design, development, and deployment projects in a cross-functional team environment. Design end user interfaces and reports. Develop tools, applications, and best practice guidelines for data loading and extraction into and out of the warehouse. Monitor system performance and capacity management attributes. Support underlying storage infrastructure and database environment.
Minimum Requirements •B.S. in Computer Science or related field. •5+ years relevant work experience in data warehousing or ETL technologies with direct responsibilities for providing system designs and implementations. •Database infrastructure design, data validation, and performance tuning in a warehousing environment. •Systems management skills for related devices and technologies such as NAS devices, and SANs. •Detailed understanding of one or more leading data warehousing solutions (Oracle, SAS, SAP, etc.). •Experience with data modeling, dimensional modeling, and data mining processes/technologies. •Prior application of biological data standards such as MIAME, MIAPE, and MSI in a database or data warehouse based environment. •Experience with software development practices and tools (IDEs, source code control systems, etc.). •Programming experience in C, C++, PHP, ASP.NET, or Java.
Preferred Requirements •M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science. •7+ years work experience in data warehousing or ETL technologies. •Experience in developing biologically-focused database or data warehouse systems.

Essential Functions (95%)
Database and Data Warehouse Design and Development (75%) •Partners with cross-functional development team members to develop database and/or data warehouse solutions oTranslates scientific requirements into technical requirements oDevelops implementation plans oCreates test plans; reviews post-test activities for plan compliance Works with management and technical staff to outline acceptance criteria oDevelops software solution/system which meets design and performance needs of scientific staff •Employs best practices in database design, software development, and capacity management •Develops system and end-user documentation
Storage Infrastructure Management and Support (25%) •Manages configuration, operation and system software support for NAS devices supporting the data warehouse oCreates storage aggregates/pools oManages underlying drive allocations oUpgrades operating system software •Interfaces with systems administration staff for SAN-related support activities •Cooperates with end users, system administration and Scientific Computing staff to resolve functional and performance issues

Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
Experience: 5+ years.
License/Certification: None required
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities •Excellent written and verbal communications skills. •Detailed knowledge of database and data warehouse related technologies. •Detailed knowledge of database design and data modeling standards. •General knowledge of enterprise software systems such as MS Exchange and MS SQL. •General knowledge of networking hardware and protocols. •Broad knowledge of industry standards and practices.

Vision: Must possess visual acuity for doing complex computer processing and see detail at close range.
Work Environment: Work is regularly performed in an indoor office setting and the noise level is moderately quiet.
