The Administrative Division of The Noble Foundation is seeking a Technician to assist the Utility Services Center staff in the operations of the Central Utility Plant. The technician will help maintain the operation and appearance of the Central Utility Plant. The technician is required to have good organizational and communication skills and a general knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems. Experience in refrigeration, boilers and chillers is a plus. This position requires weekly night shifts (M-F 3:00PM-12:00AM) and some weekend schedules.

2 year certificate/training program in engineering technology or equivalent and minimum of 2 years experience in a related field is preferred.

Job Description
  Job Summary

The Utility Services Center Technician will be required to assist the Utility Services Center Staff in the operations of the Central Utility Plant. The Technician will help maintain the operation and appearance of the Central Utility Plant. The technician is required to have good organizational and communication skills and a general working knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical Systems. Other duties will include after-hour maintenance of Greenhouse and other scientific equipment. Work schedule will consist of night and weekend duty.

Essential Duties
  • Operate and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment such as switchgear, boilers, chillers, pumps, etc.
  • Make visual inspection of equipment and its operation.
  • Perform preventative maintenance duties on equipment such as filter changing, painting, cleaning and lubrication of facilities.
  • Be readily available to respond to utility outages.
  • Coordinate with other departments as required.


Secondary Duties

  • Assist other crafts as needed and perform related duties as assigned.
  • Maintenance in Greenhouse and scientific division facility.
  • Monitoring research equipment.

Reports to: Utility Services Center Manager

Requirements

Education: 2 year certificate/training program in Engineering Technology or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in related field.
Attitude: Must have good attitude; be cooperative and work well with others.

Other Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Must be able to read and understand technical drawings and writings, schematics, and similar documents.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must possess a commitment to the Foundation’s scientific focused services and the relationship of the Central Utility Plant.
  • Proficiency in computer use and knowledge of their applications is essential (Word, Excel, e-mail, internet).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.


Physical and Mental Requirements

Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to lift loads with a total weight of 25 lbs.
  • Pushing and Pulling: Must be able to pull and push equipment dollies while moving parts and supplies.
  • Body Positions: Sit at desk or computer terminal. Moderate amount of walking and standing is required.
  • Body Movements: Must be agile and able to bend, stoop and reach while working and carrying supplies. Must be able to climb ladders and use manlift at reaches of 24’ above the floor.
  • Hand Use: Must be able to type moderately well and able to use mechanical tools.
  • Sense of Touch: Sense of balance required and ability to detect hot and cold.
  • Hearing: Phone use is required. Hearing is required for receiving instructions.
  • Vision: Must be able to read information on computer screens, and to read a wide variety of printed type formats.


Mental Requirements
  • Mathematics: Required to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Remembering: Acute for overlapping job assignments. Computer and database skills require memory skills; search language protocol requires good memory skills.
  • Language Ability: Must be able to communicate using both Standard English verbal and written skills. Must be able to understand English spoken with international accents.
  • Reasoning: Must be able to plan and prioritize shift work activities with a minimum of supervision. Decision making and judgment required in operations of the Central Utility Plant. Attention to detail required in everyday and preventative maintenance is a must.

    Other Requirements:
    • Must interact with others in the spirit of teamwork, cooperation and helpfulness.
    • Must be able to track several tasks simultaneously, complete tasks promptly.
