Dr. Rogers's primary research interest and focus involves forage based beef cattle production and forage agronomy. Specifically the development of forage systems that for cow/calf producers maximizes grazing days available. For the benefit of stocker producers this involves the development of grazing systems that provide ample biomass and gain opportunities year round. Both systems will focus on the evaluation of perennials forages for persistence, quality and suitability in beef cattle production systems for the Southern Plains.
While a primary focus will be on perennial forages, additional work will be done evaluating alternative forages and annual forages that can be used in combination with perennials to support year-round grazing systems. As these programs evolve, management practices will be developed for these systems for nutrient, pest, and grazing management.
