Associate Professor
Noble Researcher since 2005
Ph.D., Agricultural Economics, 2005, Oklahoma State University
Dr. Biermacher's research program generates sound economic information that can be used by agricultural producers and land stewards to make informed decision about whether or not they should adopt new or alternative crop and livestock management practices, production systems and production technologies. More specifically, his research program focuses on four primary area, including (1) forage-based beef production and management systems (2) precision agriculture technologies, (3) forage and crop nutrient management, and (4) bioenergy economics.
Forage-based beef production is the primary economic activity in the commercial agriculture industry within the Noble Foundation's service region. As a result, Dr. Biermacher's primary research focus is to conduct studies that seek to determine the economic feasibility of alternative forage-based beef production and management systems. Dr. Biermacher's research program also focuses on providing economic analysis for a number of value added enterprises that a substantial number of farmers and ranchers have expressed interest in pursuing in the region. These value added enterprises include fruit and vegetable production in passive solar greenhouses, the economic feasibility of pecan orchard establishment, management and nut harvesting and the economic feasibility of alternative retained ownership and non-traditional marketing of preconditioned beef calves.
