Stems erect, solitary, simple or branched, 4-angled; leaves opposite, simple, coarsely serrate to doubly serrate on margins; inflorescence is a loosely arranged spike, paniculate, sparsely flowered, often very elongate; flowers small, white, bilaterally symmetrical. Flowers June-October.
Plant community type: In uplands and bottomlands. In both open areas and wooded areas receiving moderate-high sunlight penetration.
