Scientific names: Festuca arundinacea (F. elatior)
Seasons of significant use: fall, winter
Characteristics: Introduced, naturalized, perennial, cool season bunch grass to 6.5 feet. Culms erect; leaf blades flat or rounded on back, up to 1.5 feet long and 0.31 inch wide; inflorescence a panicle, somewhat nodding. Flowers April-October.
Plant community type: Primarily a planted pasture grass in open areas. Also found in some wooded situations due to its somewhat shade tolerant nature. Escapes readily. Does extremely well in open bottomland situations.
