Common names: weeping love grass

Scientific names: Eragrostis curvula

Seasons of significant use: winter

Characteristics: Introduced, naturalized, perennial, warm season bunch grass to 5.0 feet. Leaf blades very narrowly lanceolate, rolled inward from the edges, flexuous; inflorescence an open panicle, nodding. Flowers May-September.

Plant community type: Primarily in open uplands in planted situations. Often used as a "reclamation" grass along roadsides. Does not spread readily from cultivated areas.

Comments: Although this is classified as a warm season grass, due to its growth habits, portions of this grass remain green throughout the year. In addition, this grass initiates growth very early in the growing season and continues very late when cur or grazed. Responds favorably to late winter burns.
