Seasons of significant use: winter (for Dichanthelium spp. complex)

Characteristics: Native, perennial, cool season grass with culms to 4.0 feet. Forms winter rosettes. Culms pubescent but without glutinous bands below nodes; nodes not bearded; principal culm blades ovate-lanceolate to broadly lanceolate, 0.5-1.26 inches wide and 4.0-11.0 inches long; leaf sheaths, at least the lower ones, with stiff hairs or minute nipple shaped protuberances; inflorescence a panicle; spring inflorescence apparently not exerted much above sheath. Flowers April-October including spring and fall phases.

Plant community type: Wooded bottomlands primarily, often on moist sites. Reported also on open areas.
